Ryanair charge more to UK fliers than Irish or European counterparts

It has been revealed that Ryanair will be charging UK fliers more to check in than their counterparts in Ireland and the rest of Europe.

New charges to check in which come into force on May 1st will assume parity between the Euro and the Pound.

New check in charges of £10 will be charged irrespective of the customer printing their own boarding pass and not taking any baggage on board. The move follows Ryanair’s decision to phase out check in desks by October 1st 2009.

For those that still wish to check in at the airport a fee of £20 will be levied per return flight.

For those flying from Eurozone countries the prices will be the same in euro’s, representing a 10% saving on the price compared to British passengers paying in sterling.

A spokesman for Ryanair said that the charges were not to penalise British passengers but to make the charges clear to all passengers. The spokesman however did add “that if the pound strengthens significantly the airline would look again at the pricing”.

Simon Evans chairman of the Air Transport Users Council the airline watchdog said “As long as Ryanair is being transparent about the charges it is doing nothing illegal”.
