UK passengers pay more for Ryanair check in : April 2009 : All inclusive holidays on the rise

Travelling to Eastern Europe can save you 60%

When looking to book a holiday in Europe this summer holidaymakers are finding that prices are up to three times higher in cities in the Eurozone compared to those outside it.

The Post Office recently undertook some analysis pricing holiday essentials in 12 European cities. Items included hotel rooms, postcards, drinks and transfers from the airport.

Eastern European cities have always been cheaper but with the fall in the Euro, the pound has fallen by 17% since last March against the Euro, this has compounded the difference.

So if you are savvy and looking for the greatest savings a trip to Warsaw or Budapest should be top of the list. Staying in a 3 star hotel in Warsaw will now cost approx. £53 compared to £106 in Athens and £147 in Barcelona. When comparing drinks a coffee in Budapest is just £1 £3.92 in Athens.

Travel companies have already been forced to cut back on holidays to familiar destinations such as Spain and France and Inghams have cancelled its entire summer city break programme.

But it is not all doom and gloom. Bookings for slightly longer haul destinations such as Egypt and Turkey are up and All Inclusive bookings with Thomas Cook have already risen 50% in the past month.
