Airline tries to stem the losses sweetners

In an effort to stem the flow of losses, British Airways has introduced a series of special offers to its passengers. The amount seats have earned the airline has been dropping and has fallen by 9.7 per cent recently, BA’s chief executive Willie Walsh has said he thinks things will get worse in the coming months.

BA’s figures have been very poor since the beginning of the recession and have lost a large share of the upmarket flyers that they had, many to rival airline Virgin.

The airline lost £94 million in the three months to the end of June this year and has gone on to lose a total of £400 million this year. Amongst the policies it has dropped is its insistence in keeping fares high and has decided to cut prices to drive demand although the airlines competitors are already at the fare cutting stage and this may not mean too many increased passenger numbers.

BA has begun offering tour operators large discounts for packages that include the popular fly-drive holidays to America and breaks to the Caribbean. The airline will offer heavily reduced seats and cheaper upgrades. Two for one deals will be available for business class seats. More seats are being offered through Air Miles and they are reducing the number of miles required for some destinations and passengers are being offered the option to upgrade to bring in more money.
