Airline seeks another way to stem the losses

British Airways have decided to go all out and begin a series of measures that will hopefully help the struggling airline stem its financial losses.

As well as offering ‘buy one, get one free’ on business class seats and encouraging up selling at the check in desks, it has now decided to offer advertising space on its boarding cards and offer advertising on its company website. The BA website attracts 500,000 visitors each day and last year it issued more than 12 million boarding cards.

BA’s brand manager, Abigail Comber, said that the ad’s on boarding passes, appearing in October, would be “a positive revenue stream for BA. We are seeking brands with a strong heritage and parity to British Airways’ own brand values. Our customers would expect us to bring them brands that they trust and respect”. British Airways have stopped providing passengers with anything other than breakfast in their economy seats for flights less that 2 and a half hours long and be offered snacks and drinks only.

The staff at BA have been asked to accept a cut in pay and allowances and a change in working conditions. After they failed to reach an agreement with the management through their union last month, BA has agreed to restart negotiations with their staff.
