Temporary contract workers made redundant

British Airways have increased their determination to save the ailing airline and announced a cut in positions within the company. BA currently employs temporary cabin crew as non permanent members of staff and 125 members were told that their positions would be terminated from October 31st. British Airways is currently looking at ways to cut 2,000 full time staff. Around 140 full time employees have decided to take voluntary redundancy. BA has also said that further voluntary schemes including working part time will be enough to hit their targets.

A spokesman for BA said “We have a small surplus in the number of our senior grades cabin crew and combined with our reduced flying programme, we have been able to accept applications for voluntary reductions from the equivalent of 140 cabin crew. We are also releasing 125 cabin crew who are on temporary work contracts”.

So far the airline has cut prices, flights and some meals on certain flights, ground crew have also been encouraged to offer cut price upgrades at the airport.
