Euro zones suffer

The recession is seriously damaging the Euro zone holiday market and looks set to continue through to holidays booked in 2010.

Tour operators, hoteliers and airlines will find it hard to fill both hotel rooms and seats on flights. The cost of taking a self catering holidays has become very expensive as the cost of daily food items and meals out have risen sharply. Some tour operators are putting their heads together and devising new ways to ensure that their clients can still have a holiday to Europe as long as they don’t expect too much luxury to be included in the price.

Thomson has begun to offer its clients a range of “supermarket basics-style” package holidays that offer good value but without the frills. The “Just” brand will be available to travellers, particularly in Greece, which will re introduce holiday makers to a more frugal holiday experience that won’t include fluffy towels and plasma screens. Packages will start at £151 and will offer only the basics with “extras” such as swimming pools and restaurants not included. Although many people may wish to take a cheap holiday abroad, there are other places such as Turkey, Egypt and the Balkans where your money will stretch to a few luxuries.
