New ways to save money

Ryanair have announced that they will be reducing the amount of flights to take off from Stansted, that it may charge for use of the lavatory and has also announced its plans to push forward the idea of standing on plans. The removal of the last 10 rows on an aircraft could give the carrier the option to place an additional 40 to 50 passengers on each flight. The passengers would have an over the shoulder seatbelt and may be available for flights of up to an hour. The airline hopes that it would save money on providing standing room and improve its carbon footprint as the seats are lighter and more will be fitted in to a smaller area on the aircraft.

Aviation authorities say that the budget airline has not approached them to consider their proposal with a view to changing current safety regulations. A spokesman for the airline said “The seats are lighter and the carbon footprint will be smaller, as more seats fit into a smaller area. We have polled about 120,000 people- two thirds said they would consider the seats if they were free, while 42 per sent said they would use the seats if the fare was half that of a traditional seat”.

Ryanair announced they would be cutting back on all of their winter flights excluding those from Edinburgh and Leeds Bradford airports. The airline says the Air Passenger Duty (APD) would factor heavily in their decision to cut back, resulting in 1.5 million fewer passengers flying Ryanair this winter.
