Researchers have found that tourist experiences are linked to 3 main elements of happiness

We all know how holidays can make you feel good but did you know they can also hold the key to a longer life.

Researchers have found that when taking a holiday tourists experiences are linked to three main elements of happiness. Not only this but the positive impact of taking a holiday lasts well after the break itself and the study has suggested this can lead to a longer life.

Dr Sebastian Filep an expert in travel and wellbeing at Victoria University Australia said "Doctors could soon be prescribing holidays instead of anti depressants, I see an opportunity for a greater connection between tourism and health where holidays become a more important factor in leading a healthy lifestyle".

Dr Filep then said"Based on studies I've seen, I can say that there is evidence that suggests that people who are happy live longer. I think that holidays may possibly led to people living longer, as holidays make people happy.

Dr Filep believes that holidays provide the three main elements of happiness which are 1. Positive emotions of joy, interest, contentment and joy. 2. meaning - giving people a sense of purpose and finally 3. engagement giving people a sense of enjoyment.

Analysis was undertaken with 60 different tourists examining their travel experiences. The travel motivations of 200 backpackers were also analysed.
