Police have named a man they are seeking in relation to several incidents of fraud.

A man police call ‘relentless’ is wanted in connection with a series of confidence tricks against people at Gatwick Airport. Police have identified the man as Neil Rogers, 41. He is thought to come from the Middlesborough area and is wanted in connection with seven cases of fraud committed at Gatwick in the last 18 months.

In the most recent incident, Rogers allegedly posed as a businessman and managed to obtain £100 from his victim. He is also wanted by police forces in Surrey, London, the Thames Valley and Edinburgh. He has a number of aliases, including Neil Roberts, Sean Wells and Daniel Thomas.

The suspect operates at airports and other transport facilities throughout the UK. He normally pretends to have run out of money and convinces victims he will repay them. He even supplies a mobile phone number but this is never answered. He lets victims ‘overhear’ a conversation he is having on the phone, which builds the story that he has run out of money and his credit cards have been cancelled. At this point, he starts a conversation with his victim and gets the person to offer him a loan.

The suspect generally seeks only small amounts of money and does a very effective job of convincing his victims he is genuine. People often feel compelled to help him. Members of the public who know Mr Rogers or know where he is should contact Sussex Police.
