SAS Europe’s most reliable airline for second year in a row : September 2010 : Flight punctuality drops at UK airports

Officials at Gatwick Airport have seized a suitcase full of dead pigeons.

In the latest bizarre find by the UK Border Agency, officials seized a suitcase containing dead pigeons and a pair of old boots. As the birds had been plucked free of all feathers, officials pondered that the pigeons may have been destined for restaurants in the UK. The boots, however, have officials stumped. The latest discovered has gone straight into the list of the top ten strangest things found by the UK Border Agency. Border officials are attempting to crack down on smugglers bringing animals into the UK illegally.

Other entrants on the list of oddities include one passenger at Heathrow Airport travelling with his pet Boa Constrictor snake wound around his leg, as well as with a suitcase containing a thousand live spiders, all of which were in individual boxes. One passenger was discovered to be carrying a striped animal skin. It was initially thought to come from an endangered species but turned out to be from a large dog and painted to like it came from a tiger. Yet another passenger was caught at Heathrow trying to smuggle 40 eggs from rare and endangered species of parrots in a specially-made vest.
