British Airways will be introducing flights between Gatwick and Marrakech in Morocco.

British Airways is to launch a service out of Gatwick Airport that will fly to Marrakech-Menara Airport in the North African nation of Morocco. BA announced the new service on the opening day of World Travel Market, which is running at London’s ExCel venue.

British Airways announced that there will be three flights per week and services will commence on 27 March, 2011. This is the latest in a series of moves BA is making to compete with discount carriers.

Richard Tams, who heads up sales and marketing for BA in the UK and Ireland, said that British Airways would be giving travellers a true alternative to budget carriers on flights to Morocco. Unlike the no-frills services normally provided by discount airlines, passengers will enjoy fantastic all-inclusive flights.

Tams said travellers would not have to fear stealth charges. Drinks and snacks will be included. Baggage allowances will be generous and there will be other benefits. Fares for one-way flights with BA from Gatwick to Marrakech will be as low as £79.70. This will included all fees, taxes and charges.

It has been a few years since British Airways operated flights to Marrakech. Operated under the GB Airways brand, the service ran between October 2002 and March 2008. EasyJet then took over GB Airways and discounted the service.
