British Airways is increasing the frequency of economy flights from Gatwick to Florida.

UK carrier British Airways has announced an increased frequency for its cheap routes to Tampa in Florida from its Gatwick base. The move is seen as intended to make BA the top provider of long-haul flights out of the busy London airport.

BA’s old schedule to Tampa used to offer just five flights a week. From the beginning of April, however, British Airways is flying between Gatwick and Tampa on every day of the week.

As a result, British families hoping to enjoy cheap holidays in the USA’s ‘Sunshine State’ have an increased range of options. Not only are immigration queues going to be shorter for Brits arriving in Florida through Tampa but the airport is markedly quieter and smaller than the much busier airport at Orlando. This means UK travellers looking for cheap, direct flights to Florida can also enjoy less stress and wasted time at the airport when they arrive.

British Airways also pointed out what it calls ‘incredible scenery and attractions’ in the Tampa region. The excellent supply of budget car hire means it is easy for travellers to enjoy everything Tampa has to offer, as well as a range of destinations on Florida’s Gulf Coast, at places like Sarasota, St. Petersburg and Clearwater.

The coastal city of Tampa enjoys a distinctly Caribbean flavour as well as clear Latin influences. The international flavours are a legacy of waves of immigration from the many islands that lie across the sea from this part of Florida.
