Rail fare increases go into force : January 2012 : Air Asia X to discontinue Gatwick and Paris flights

South Korea’s flag carrier has announced it will soon offer flights to and from Gatwick airport.

Korean Airlines, a key member in the Skyteam alliance, said in its official statement released late last week that flights between the south London facility and its base at Seoul’s Incheon airport would kick off on 29 April of this year. The carrier will deploy one of its Boeing 777 wide-body jets on the route, which features a three-class layout with eight first class seats and 28 business class seats.

The GM of Korean Airlines’ office in London, Jeong Soo Park, said that the addition was a reflection of the carrier’s commitment to offering London convenient access to Korea as well as to a number of onward destinations including Australia, New Zealand and points across the Far East. He added that the airline looked forward to a successful relationship with Gatwick in the years to come.

The airline’s arrival at Gatwick marks another milestone in its new owners’ efforts to attract new carriers and to offer new destinations. Other recent additions to the second-busiest airport in London include Vietnam Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines and Air Asia X, which recently moved to Gatwick from its competitor's facility at Stansted in North London.

Guy Stephenson, Gatwick’s chief commercial officer said South Korea was one of the fastest growing economies in Asia and that the new flight would provide a vital link between the two countries.
