Car rental firm Avis is set to launch its 70th rental location in China.

The company said in a press release issued late last week that the new rental outlet in Jinan, Shandong province would open its doors next month, bringing the firm’s total number of locations in the People’s Republic of China to 70 – more than any other car rental provider.

Patric Siniscalchi, Avis Budget Group’s president of Asian and Latin American operations said that the country’s domestic tourism market continues to see increasingly heavier demand for car hire and that the World Tourism Organization projects China to become the foremost destination for tourism globally over the coming years.

Avis’ growing fleet of rental vehicles in China includes several compact, luxury and family cars including the Buick GL8 minivan, the Volkswagen Gol, the Audi A6, the BMW 5and the Ford Minibus for larger parties.

Xavier Gernaey, Avis’ GM for Asia-Pacific said that the opening represented the company’s commitment to serving the growing travel market in China. He went on to say that visitors to the Asian country would also appreciate the growing presence of a brand they trust.

Avis expects to open 40 to 50 new locations in China by the end of the year, following its impressive growth of 17 per cent seen in the country last year.
