Thomson announces service expansion from Leeds Bradford : April 2012 : Malaysia Airlines ban children from first class

A new airline offering unlimited service between some California airports is preparing for launch this summer.

Founders of Surf Air recently announced an eye-raising business plan in which passengers can subscribe for unlimited flights between the upscale markets of Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Monterrey and Palo Alto in California for a monthly fee as low as $790 (£497).

Last week David and Wade Eyerly, the company’s pioneers, said the new strategy was aimed to target the upscale frequent fliers that currently comprise some 85 per cent of the market for business travellers. The pair noted that last year alone saw in excess of 20 million frequent fliers board flights between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Surf Air chief executive Wade Eyerly was once an aide for former US Vice President Dick Cheney and is also a card-carry commercial pilot and has industry experience as a manager for Denver-based Frontier Airlines.

He said in a statement that the venture was looking to fill a significant need in the market by offering affordable and professional service between highly popular airports. He said that Surf Air customers would enjoy benefits reflecting an “exclusive travel club” such as the ability to arrive minutes before each flight with a greeting via the company’s concierge.
